POSITION OVERVIEW


The Director of the Library and Learning Resources is responsible for leading and managing the campus library and technology services. The position is an academic staff, twelve-month appointment reporting to the Campus Executive Officer/Dean.

The director exercises leadership in the planning, coordination, and development of library and instructional technology policies and activities. Supervises and evaluates academic staff and classified personnel working within the unit. Plans and disburses budgets, coordinates staff and faculty selections of library and media resources, advises and assists patrons in the use of the collection, represents the campus in resource sharing projects which enhance user services, and assures that technology services are available to all. The director participates in the UW Colleges Library Council and other committees and organizations which benefit library and instructional technology.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES


• Working within the framework of the campus mission and in consultation with the Dean to develop policies, set goals, priorities, objectives and plan for the future of the UWMC library, media services and instructional technologies

• Set work schedules, supervise and evaluate academic and classified staff who work in library and media services/instructional technology, and coordinate and participate in technology training for staff

• Plan, administer and disburse budgets for the library, media services/instructional technology for resources, equipment and supplies. Seek funding and alternative resources to enhance the library services, classroom technologies, and campus infrastructure

• Maintain the library as a user-friendly, technologically sophisticated learning center with a strong “customer service” image; exercise leadership and participate in providing a full-range of user services (library and computer-related technologies) that meet the information needs of students, faculty, and staff

• With the reference staff, provide group instruction and individual reference assistance on the use of library resources to students, faculty, and staff

• Ensure adequate technology to support the needs of library users and programs; work to explore and implement technology to better serve library patrons

• Manage the library collection by providing leadership in acquisition, collection development, maintenance, and de-selection; maintain the automated holdings necessary for inventory and report data

• Manage library lending and service agreements and all user services both on and off campus

• In consultation with the Office of Student Services, Business Office and appropriate governance committees, develop and implement policies and procedures relating to the library and technology (fines, fees, holds, disciplinary action, etc.)

• With the instructional technology staff, work closely with the Campus Information and Instructional Technology Committee, the UW Colleges Information and Instructional Technology Committee, Library Support Services, UW Colleges CIO Office to coordinate library and campus network operations, infrastructure and technology compatibilities

• With the instructional technology staff, manage classroom technology, computer labs, distance education technology and web page design and maintenance

• Work with campus building committees to oversee the design, and furnishing of, technology-enhanced classrooms and conference rooms to assure compatibility with current technologies

• Maintain professional knowledge of library and information science; communicate new developments and initiatives to the Dean and campus community; keep current with developments in information technology and instructional media and implement their relationship to the library as a teaching and learning resource

• Establish goodwill and working relationships with a variety of external groups and organizations for the benefit of the campus by representing the university in the community, state and region on projects and committees that support resource sharing, technology improvements and campus issues; actively participate in campus and university-wide planning and governance activities; participate in local, state, and national professional organizations and activities

• Other duties as assigned by the dean

QUALIFICATIONS

MLS with 5 years experience required.
Management and IT experience preferred.

$62,854 with full benefits
